Invitation
On the 23 of October a formal invitation was sent through diplomatic channels from the Norwegian Minister of Environment and International Development Co-operation to all member States of the United Nations.  A copy was sent to the National Focal Points for CBD.

Invitations were also sent directly to relevant UN agencies and international and non-governmental organizations.

Practical information for the participants

Venue
The conference was held at Radisson SAS Royal Garden Hotel, in the city of Trondheim, Norway. The hotel is situated in the city centre of Trondheim on the banks of the river Nidelven.

Accommodation
Block reservations for the conference participants where made at the Radisson SAS Royal Garden and at the Thon Hotel Gildevangen Hotel.

Travel support
The Norwegian government provided travel support for participants from countries eligible for such support according to criteria under the CBD.

This was done through a grant from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and applied to participants from countries eligible for such support, i.e. countries listed on OECD’s DAC List of ODA Recipients.

The travel support covered all costs related to participation, i.e. travel (economy class), visa, accommodation and meals.

Trondheim
Trondheim is Norway´s third largest and second oldest city, founded in 997. The Nidaros Cathedral is one of Scandinavia’s largest medieval buildings and houses the Norwegian Crown jewels.

The city has at strong position as the centre of trade for central Norway. The city is also a centre for education, with the internationally renowned Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). The many research communities contribute to Trondheim´s reputation as a city of innovation and development in science, business and industry.

Trondheim has a rich variety of historical sights, museums and art galleries. The most popular tourist sights include the Ringve Music History Museum and the Trøndelag Folk Museum. Scandinavia’s largest timber building, Stiftsgården, is the royal family’s residence in Trondheim. In the city centre you will find the special wooden houses in the neighbourhood of Bakklandet and wooden houses from the 17th and 18th centuries.
